We all use our smartphones. We use them too much. There are millions of articles about smartphone addiction and how it destroy this and that. Recently I read an article which says that number of street accidents in USA is increased last years because of smartphones.
Definitely I read this article on my smartphone.
I also use my smartphone a lot. I know this. I hope that I use it effectively. But, my assumptions is one thing, meanwhile reality can be different. Therefore I decided to check if I’m right about my smartphone habits or not. So, I installed an application called QualityTime. This application records your smartphone activities. Actually, it is designed to help one to reduce smartphone usage – full name of the application is “QualityTime – My Digital Diet”. But for simple monitoring it works fine as well.
Then I let this app to track my activities for a week. I uninstalled it afterwards. Following screenshot show how I do use smartphone.
Unfortunately it does not track some background activities, like listening podcasts with locked screen. Meanwhile, I know that I used my smartphone this way quit long time.
Am I surprised with result? Somehow: I thought that I talk less, then I actually do. But generally, result matches my expectations – for me smartphone is, first of all, a news kiosk, then communication – mail and messaging and then everything else.
So, for me smartphone is not a time killer, but a useful tool. But what about you?
