- vanilla android
- pixel like update speed and duration for all their phones.
I like when updates bring new features to my device. Therefore I was interested and kept an eye on news regarding Nokia phones. Moreover, few people around me bought nokias – so I had a chance to get first-hand news.
My colleague told me that he received security updates every month and they were up to date. For comparison, my Moto G got security updates probably once per quarter or so, and these updates included several months old fixes.
Fast security updates were impressive. But I was waiting for Android 8 being published. I had two reasons for this:
- new android version includes more changes than a security patch, therefore it could be more complicated to adjust it to the given phone
- to be honest with me, get new Android version is more interesting than get a security patch
For the long time after Android 8 was published, there was no news about Nokia. I saw promises and rumors regarding phones of other brands, but nothing about Nokia.
Later on, I read that HMD promised to update their phones to Android 8 in the Q4 of 2017.
In the very end of January 2018 Nokia starts updating their phones. And they do this model by model. Same time as few other manufacturers. This is what I have read, no one of Nokia owners I know received an updated yet.
It looks like if you want pixel like update schedule you still have to buy a pixel phone.
